The intent of this blog is to promote human equality, human progress, human peace and justice, and optimism. To accomplish this, to encourage the discussion of ideas after identifying and discovering problems, and then creating positive solutions for "we the people," in order to provide for the "general welfare" and "domestic tranquility" of America now and its "posterity" into the future. To encourage an emphasis on separation of religion and state for all, no matter if this is for those "of faith" in a Maker / Creator (Deists, God-loving people, Christians, various people of spirituality) and atheists or agnostics.

Newspaper Delivery Problems or a Management Problem? (Part 1)

We FINALLY procured a newspaper today, after driving 10 miles to get one. The Press & Sun-Bulletin.  According to an article in the newspaper, there is difficulty in finding newspaper delivery people. Really?  Perhaps someone in the media industry needs to do an in-depth report on this and get to the bottom of what is TRULY happening. Because I find this hard to believe that, with high unemployment numbers and from what some have told me, there is a pretty good pay for newspaper delivery people.  I know those in my own family who would like to make extra money because they are on temporary jobs and a morning delivery to get newspapers delivered by 7 or 8 am in the morning would be a nice extra income. So I find this hard to believe in this article.

I blame bad management for not being able to come up with a solution. Sorry, but when I have no problem in getting goods delivered by Amazon, then I have to wonder why people are blaming the unemployment checks? This approach is ludicrous. Why not contract with Amazon or others? Why not look into other ways of “building a better American mousetrap?” No. What I hear is a bunch of whining Trumpicans regarding unemployment checks. They could solve the problem, but they are not willing to put in the time. What about management which was once forced to work jobs when workers went on strike? Where are such people? Is it workers enjoying unemployment checks or lazy managers? When I was a professor and there might be a shortage of some workers, we had to fill in and got the job done. Yet we professors are attacked over and over again by Trumpicans, Jebicans, Scott-pricks, wanting to privatize everything.  As a professor, I also often tried to give the benefit of the doubt many times. But how many times does one have to continue to give the “benefit of the doubt,” over and over and over again?

Newspapers which have acquired other newspapers, merged them and created huge corporate conglomerates with control from the top and no concern for local issues and the local customers.

Short & To the Point: Face the Nation & Bernie Sanders

Kudos to Bernie Sanders when he appeared on Face the Nation today (May 23, 2021). He brought out some very interesting points about the conflict in Israel and how the right wing in Israel is helping to inspire anti-Semitism among American Jews (and Jews in other areas of the world). Not a surprise, for sure. He gave President Biden a good review about handling the situation in the Middle East, to which this listener is in full agreement. Stop the anti-Semitism, America, and wake up to what is TRULY happening among the extreme right wing. The Trumpicans are false about accusations of “extreme” left because we don’t see extremism, just a mood for progressing in this world by solving the problems of the world, not by hatred and bigotry by an idiocratic autocratic puritanical bunch of fart faces. Is this enough for short and to the point?

Blasphemy from a Newspaper

It’s 11:51 AM on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Our Press & Sun-Bulletin and New York Times newspapers have STILL not been delivered for morning reading. No retail outlet in Owego had the New York Times, but sometimes Price Chopper does. Not today. Made a claim on the Press & Sun-Bulletin and the only choice in a free country such as America is to explain we did not get delivery. False. Our delivery is late. No choice in America the free, as put there by lousy computer programmers who program the website, probably at the direction of greedy and selfish money-loving and money-grubbing CEOs. What happens when we reply with the only choice in America the free? “You will receive a credit.” This means we won’t deliver your newspaper because Gannett is too damn lazy to find someone to deliver it properly to Newark Valley, NY. Instead, what was found at the base of our post where the newspaper is to go? A small bottle of booze. Ludicrous, right? Mockery. Patronizing us in a foul way. We are sick and tired of this attitude in America and we won’t stop in being persistent in letting America know what is being done to us, the consumer on the demand side of a newspaper market. Damnation to Gannett for not getting a responsible delivery person and brushing us off with a lousy lack of choices in a “free America.” May Gannett go to h-e-double-hockey-sticks and burn there.

Short & To the Point: CBS News Sunday Morning Report on Homelessness

Kudos to CBS News Sunday Morning and its report today about Homelessness and Housing First. The report about the Colorado mayor hiding and living among the homeless population in his area was very interesting. No surprise that he found the biggest hurdles were economic instability and not being able to pay for the high cost of housing, addictive disorders, and mental illness. His experience reminds me of the inside information I had from a person working within the Mario Cuomo administration in Albany and reporting how Cuomo went out each day for a walk. He found homeless people and talked with them. He thought most of the homeless did not want the help. In working with homeless in Florida, I find this assessment by Cuomo to be bizarre. As a professor, I tutored one veteran and watched as he really DID desire to lift himself out of the position of homelessness. I find the Cuomo assessment several decades ago to be rather bizarre. Then, perhaps it was a time with different circumstances and situations? I also wanted to add to this story from CBS News about a program at my church in Florida called Family Promise. Churches came together and provided homes for the homeless as they worked to get back on their feet. In these days when Republicans claim to follow family interests but then boo Mitt Romney off the stage. This idiocracy based on Trump is teaching a false herd mentality about what a family is by working to make it illegal for gay couples to adopt, in states like Tennessee. My denomination accepts gay people and also supports the Family Promise efforts by opening the doors to our church for homeless families to live and do the activities they need to do. There are some very good people from our church who do this. In these days of rift between the idiocracy of puritanical crap about families, would it not have been a good practice on the part of CBS News to add this part about Family First and the Christians who are true Christians and reaching out to help? Oh, that’s right. We cannot go into details because it takes too much information to be presented to people. Keep it short and to the point, don’t you know? Nevertheless, gracious thanks to CBS News for presenting this report this morning. The statistics about the success of Housing First was really eye-opening and should have been to Americans today who fight this idea to help the homeless. Kudos to Housing First and to Family Promise for the success in helping homeless people get back on their feet. Sad that in one of the wealthiest nations on earth, we have lovers of money controlling real estate and pushing the prices so high that we have such a homeless population. At one time, the frontier was open in America, so people could head to the frontier and start a new life. The veteran whom I helped at been living in a nearby public park, along with so many other homeless people in Palm Beach County, Florida, not far from Trump’s home across the intracoastal waterway. The frontier closed and that was one of the reasons FDR introduced a “New Deal.” The “New Deal” was and is rejected by the stupid idiocracy of autocratic Trumpicans who are in denial about homelessness. They are worse than the Republicans who fought FDR in the 1930s and 1940s. Paranoid idiots are the Trumpican autocratic idiots. Love of money before love of the human species is becoming a “norm” which we need to reject and toss away. It takes more than just my words to do so. The French Revolution was fought and Napoleon ended up in charge. He, too, was a criminal on the level of King George of England and Donald Trump. Neither of them got executed and King George ended up secluded at the end of his life, due to his mental illness. Napoleon ended up being tried and banished to a heavily secured island. THAT is law and order, my friends, not the law and order defined by Trumpicans or Giuliani or others in the idiocracy of wealth and love of money. Am I short and to the point enough? Too bad if I am not.

Short & To the Point: CBS News This Morning Story About Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Bravo to CBS News Sunday Morning and your report about Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. What a wonderful ride down memory lane to the “Deja Vu” album we purchased at the end of the 1960s while just young kids. We loved listening to “Our House” and “Teach Your Children,” etc. America needs these values portrayed by this wonderful band. Glad to hear there is a 50th anniversary remake. What is disappointing is to hear the rift between the band members and hearing that this rift will likely never be fixed because it is like trying to put together a “thread which has been broken.”

Short & To the Point: Hidden Agenda of Bigotry

Blackmail. Demonization. Marginalization. Is it possible these exist with a hidden bigotry? You think not, heh? What do you know? Have you ever read the John Howard Griffin’s book, Black Like Me? If not, you better go to a library and check it out. Have you read Mel White’s book, Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America. You better read it and learn. Go to a library and check it out. Lifelong learning means to open your damn minds and get outside your damn boxed in brain and LEARN things which you may not have known before, including how different people are FORCED to live in this land we call America. It is sickening when realizing this. It is sickening when a male thinks he is a male and grows a beard, while some of us don’t have that “natural” ability to grow a beard. To think that a male might bloviates that he “refuses to accept the fact that he has a feminine side.” Oh, really, you jackass? Every human being starts out as a female. The amount of testosterone bath in the womb helps to change the clitoris to a penis. Some people come out of the tube with two, not one, types of genitals. So, you jackasses who can grow your damn beards and define that as being a man, can go to h-e-double hockey sticks and burn in the fire. You help vote in favor of blocking a gay couple in Tennessee from adopting children because YOU…. YOU… are the one with the closed-minded perverted mind who thinks only about sex and not about families and what it really takes to build a family. You refuse to have lifelong learning and discover that the natural things are things created by God almighty, whether named Jah, Jehovah, or Yah-way, creates the seahorse in which the insemination and birthing process is opposite to other species. Namely, the male with the sperm gets the eggs inseminated in his body by the female, after a ritual mating dance. The male fertilizes the eggs in his body and carries the developing baby seahorses to term, then the babies go out of the tube provided by the male, not a female. It’s a natural process just as natural a process for a gay couple to raise a family of children and many times do a better job than many straight couples do. ”The problems of the world are not that some people love in a different way. The problems are that so many people don’t know how to love at all (CGA, 1970).” I speak my admonition of hidden bigotry, whether based on bigotry towards gay people, colored people, or Jews. Such a hidden agenda among a herd of dopes produces blackmail, demonization, and marginalization of very good and generous people, in the name of puritanical dolts like Franklin Graham or the late Jerry Fallwell, and other bastards and SOBs who claim to follow God when they don’t. God bless the un-closeted LGBTQ, colored people, and various religious people who recognize the true love of God. Shall I proclaim a God damn for the others? Puritanical dimwits maintain this hidden agenda of bigotry, but it is said that ”a Puritan is someone in fear that someone, somewhere, is having a good time.” Agape, peace, justice, happiness, and joy in life gives us a good time, but Puritans are in fear that we might find such happiness and joy and have a good time. Hidden agendas based on bigotry brings a lack of love, peace, justice, happiness, and joy among those who are impacted by this. Such jackasses would prefer to judge such people as freaks of nature and put us on display in a circus. Go to h-e-double hockey sticks, will you?

Why has my photo on my Tioga Herald blog been removed by WordPress? Why, when I try to contact WordPress, they don’t return my calls? Why?

Three-Penny Op-ed: Socialism, Ambiguity, and Short-sighted Two-sided Contrasts

Everything is presented as black and white. We, the citizens of the USA, rarely get presented with more detail about a subject. If we did, though, too many of these younger generations reject learning and removing the blinders to soak up the details. Thus, the media folks and others can make statements based only on THEIR interpretation and never taking into account considerations for black, white, gray, or other tones or colors of the rainbow. After all, the rainbow naturally occurs when rain and sunlight simultaneously appear before our eyes.

I like Joe Scarborough and have learned a great deal from him, since I first read his article in a business magazine, published in 2005. Even Joe Scarborough, though mentions “free enterprise” and a black and white contrast between that and socialism. I would like to suggest that is not the case.

A Cuban whose family was forced to flee Cuba when Fidel Castro’s troops confiscated her family’s property helped me learn these differences. There is socialist autocracy as dictated by Fidel Castro and there is supply-side economic centrally planned autocracy as dictated by Battista, masquerading as capitalism and “free enterprise.” When this Cuban person visited a socialist democracy where the people are the happiest on earth, Denmark, she commented about how their mobile phone system far surpassed that in America. No wonder the people of Denmark, time after time, have been rated the “happiest on earth.”

The people of Denmark have socialist-capitalist democracy, not autocracy. They also have free enterprise, too. Yet, the American herd mentality, generated by the media in the USA, just use the word, “socialism” to describe Denmark and other Scandinavian nations. Mr. Scarborough, there does not need to be a differentiation between socialism and “free enterprise” capitalism.

In 2005, Mr. Scarborough wrote about the need for regulation. This COULD mean regulating the capitalist markets with an infinite demand or supply. Few supply side industries are infinite. One would think oil is infinite when listening to those who control the status quo in oil, from Texas to the Koch brothers to Saudi Arabia (whose royal family was responsible for 9/11 and for cutting off the heads of their citizens who disobey the autocratic monarchs), and many others. The net result is that we pretend oil is an infinite supply, when it’s not. Big oil works to block the R&D efforts and businesses which can provide more capitalist competition and help do what capitalism is designed to do: competition can help keep prices lower. Supply-side idiots controlling and regulating the markets. In criticism, I say that Mr. Scarborough appears to follow the American supply-side fat cat herd mentality when putting forth the “norm” of there being a black and white contrast between socialism and free enterprise. I just mentioned something which pretends to be free enterprise and it is not, so it regulates its own market and works to destroy a third-party regulator, the government. There was an American family with two presidents who side with Saudi Arabia and the oil monopolies, with one saying, “what is good for business is good for America.” Wrong. Balance is good for America.

The Scandinavian nations prove that socialism can coexist with capitalism and democracy. The Scandinavian nations are more racially homogeneous than the USA, so they don’t have to consider only two sides of the equation with “black and white.” America has to go beyond just two sides of the equation because it is not racially homogeneous. The reason why Americans are against socialism are the same reasons and the common thread which runs through so many issues in America: systemic racism. And I am not being ambiguous here because I refuse to accept those, whether black or gay (Lindsay Graham) who are “Uncle Toms” and do just what the “massa says.” This is the reason why so many white people wish to “make America great again” by going back to the days when white supremacy reigned in America. To these jackass idiots, this makes America great, not human equality as it appears in socialist notions, Social Security, Medicare, ACA, freedom to carry guns (for white folks to use the guns against African-Americans, Latino/a, indigenous folks, as in the past). This is the background of the NRA and the false ideas about the 2nd Amendment. False because it was how the 2nd Amendment was applied for many years when the “nation was great” (according to the MAGA group of the idiocracy).

This would mean that socialism is too much of an “equalizing” force.” Therefore, it is rejected by preaching ambiguous notions about what socialism is. It also means that only white people should be allowed to carry guns and kill by “standing the white-skinned people’s ground” as developed by the NRA (and Jeb Bush of Florida). America needs to BECOME great by getting over these ambiguities and simple “black and white notions.”

This is all said with all due respect to Joe Scarborough. I also say, with due respect, that Bernie Sanders and “socialism” is not, in many respects, the socialism of Scandinavian socialist-capitalist democracies. For instance. According to information I have read, out of Sweden and other Scandinavian nations, there are no government-instituted minimum wages. Why not? My impression is that we are describing a situation in which these nations recognize the role of balance in capitalism. Just as supply and demand in industries helps create a competitive environment in order to provide better prices and for being able to obtain products and services with more “bang for the buck” (value at a better cost), a lack of minimum wage will help maintain this. But. What are these nations doing to train its people so that industries in the future can better serve the demand side of the markets? Are they using privatized education and hospitals in order to accomplish the goals to solve problems? I really doubt it. It is another style of regulating what is done, but doing the regulation responsibly.

Are these nations perfect and more perfect than America? Not likely. There is no perfection. But they might be more reasonable and rational. One could say, “well they don’t have very many black people there.” OK. That might be true, when contrasting with America. But what is that worth? You mean to say, Americans are not able to learn to coexist in a nation where we do have multi-colored people? Bull. I don’t believe it.

I invoke, once again (and again and again and again and again) Frank Sinatra: “we can have fun in fixing an imperfect nation.” Frank Sinatra had a black friend in his “rat pack” who experienced systemic racism in this nation. From white Army troops in World War II pissing on Sammy Davis, Jr., to being denied the same entrances to the same hotels where he and Sinatra were performing, there was a problem in America and that problem was NOT what made America great. No wonder Sinatra described America as “imperfect.” Sinatra was not willing to give up solving the problems of the land he called, “home.”

If people feel they don’t want to be contentious with others, so they just shut their mouths, out of fear of retribution and willingly accept lawyers who pit Americans against Americans with personal injury lawsuits and workman’s comp (rather than equalized healthcare for all), what a shameful, shameful, shameful bunch of Americans. I feel sorry for such people in their scummy ideas against anger and contentiousness when people say, “I am mad as hell and I ain’t going to take it anymore.” Anger and contentiousness against inequality in America, in any form, means we stand up for what is the correct thing for America to do to combat systemic racism (and homophobia, too).

Also to be mentioned is the idea of unions. When either side of unions is irrational and unreasonable, they destroy the balance which should be achieved. The ones with the whips had enough control to knock down the unions which went too far in America. They developed NAFTA and shipped jobs overseas. The irrationality of such bastards on the management side felt forced into a corner by irrational unions. Perhaps that is the case. In the process, these management bastards have increased their salaries and bonuses exponentially, as they still continue to work to destroy unions, in a vengeful attitude which then puts the union people in a corner. These working people think a Trump will solve their problems. Think again, you idiots. His cronies are the ones who wish to continue to replace workers with robots, you idiots, so go vote for idiot Trump and his followers, but be careful what you wish for because you might get something you don’t like or enjoy. As a member of a union, I can say that we faced this irrational attitude with an administration which refused to acknowledge our rationality while attempting to work out compromises at the negotiating table. I suppose I can say I understand why such Republicans acted in the manner they did, due to the lack of balance in unions and their delight at destruction of good things.

One more thing. Regulated capitalism might have elements of socialism, as what I have described here, but only when there needs to be regulation on both sides of the supply and demand considerations (on both sides of union-management negotiating table) and the goal is balance. Lacking this kind of balance and pushing the one-sided aspect of “free enterprise” and we end up getting rid of the “referee” in government (third party). This can be likened to letting Roman gladiators go in an arena and killing people like Christians. Supply-side economics with centrally planned economics from top-down of monopoly-style big corporations is not capitalism because, like the gladiators in an arena, it destroys and “kills” the opposition.

This can also be likened to a what-if scenario. What if an NFL team played a high school football team? What if there were no referees and all the rules were established by the NFL team, including the possibility of destroying human beings in the process? What if such a situation existed? If you would love to see this, then go to h-e-double hockey sticks because you are a savage barbarian trying to invoke your will upon a civilized nation.

My Cuban colleague I mentioned who came from Cuba at an early age in her life, also served on a Civility Committee which recognized coexistence and attempted to teach our students such concepts. Not barbarism. Civility. Coexistence. In America, the imperfect nation that it is, but being able to have fun in fixing it.

I would have fun in creating a democracy NOT based on a two-party system, as well, but based on something similar to the parliamentary system in Britain which went against King George and removed some of the taxes he imposed on the colonists. Bet Americans don’t know about this little aspect. But a parliamentary system night have two parties in control, but there are other parties to which the party which is in control has to make alliances with the parties with smaller numbers in order to name a prime minister. That prime minister has to maintain that coalition and partisanship is shot in the foot in the process. I do not believe the upper house of the parliament has any stupid freaking filibuster rules, either, which decimates the ability for compromise. Go to h-e-double-hockey sticks, Mancin.

With all due respect to those who continue to invoke a two-sided contrast in any form, it’s the resulting ambiguity and lack of compromise in actions (not values), stupid.

Short & To the Point: Words of Free Enterprise & Constitution

Joe Scarborugh’s used of the words, “free enterprise” is like those who use the word constitution to make a point related to the discussion which assumes we all agree on how the wording is used. In one short phrase and without explanation, Scarborough intended “free enterprise” to be contrary to the word, “socialism.” With the references I have for Scarborough suggesting the Republicans should support regulation of capitalism, the phrase “free enterprise” becomes ambiguous to those who say, “rah, rah, rah” to “free markets” and “free enterprise” and with no concern for REGULATING free enterprise. Same is true with pro-gun NRA people who make a claim that the 2nd Amendment is for individual rights when there are many who say no to such crap and that it is more about, since its conception, defending white people while not allowing black people and indigenous folks to get away with the same murder with guns that white people do. Mention the word, “constitution,” and such white racists believe you are supportive of their ideas of the 2nd Amendment to protect white people. Same thing. Ambiguity with words. Actually, I believe socialism AND free enterprise can co-exist and are NOT contrary to one another. Socialism fits in when there is infinite demand in capitalist markets. The concept of socialism for taking over business by the government dose not fit the picture I have of socialism. Socialism can can play a role in helping to balance supply and demand. In fact, the example of centrally planned supply side economics with big business is more like government control advocated by socialism. Just because it is a bunch of wealthy fat cats who have done well financially due to liberals and conservatives, red and blue, Democrats and Republicans over time (and never give the appreciation for this balance of power which helped them achieve what they achieved), does not negate the fact that they use socialist and communist centrally planned economics to destroy free enterprise. One more example of ambiguity in words. It’s centrally planned economics by big corporate monopolies, stupid, not socialism, which causes America’s problems. It is tough to explain in being “short and to the point” because of the ambiguity of words. Yet, I am in a catch-22 with a bunch of dolts in America who refuse to read as extensively as my blue-collar dad who served his country in the Pacific in World War II. He read extensively and it was detailed articles in newspapers which, for the sake of short-sighted dolts today, have been cut back and we in rural America are denied the delivery of newspapers in print copy. Go to hell to such an America because even newspapers are working to destroy America.

Short & To the Point: Retribution Because We Complain?

It’s 2 PM. Our morning newspaper, The Press & Sun-Bulletin, from Gannett, still has not arrived. Morning newspaper. Afternoon. Still not here. Afternoon newspapers went out of business in favor of morning newspapers. The Evening Press of Gannett purchased the morning newspaper, the Sun-Bulletin. Afternoon. The morning Press & Sun-Bulletin has still not been delivered. How many times have I complained about this on our blog? How many times have I had to spend money on gas to go to Broome County or Owego, from Newark Valley. Written letters have gone out to the CEO at Gannett and to the Better Business Bureau, as well as other people. Perhaps we don’t get delivery out of Trump-style retribution about complaining? What pigs and fat cats who won’t correct a situation or apologize due to this crap and the consumer on the demand side of the market is treated like customers of centrally-controlled Moscow Pravda in a communist state. What do we have to do to get another newspaper to publish AND DELIVER print copies in this area to those of us who must only be chopped liver? What does it take in American business to make this better, rather than ad screwball top-down crap done by fat cats in TELLING us how we need to receive our newspaper so THEY can hoard the money at the top. This is a SICK America when fat cats take such charge and tell US what we want for our products. Go ahead. Keep giving us retribution when we, as the customer, complain. Go ahead, you damn jackasses because this is the ONLY means I have to complain and get something done. You bastards and SOBs. And the ones who are just silent, want no confrontation and say, “too bad, too bad.” Shame on you.
