The intent of this blog is to promote human equality, human progress, human peace and justice, and optimism. To accomplish this, to encourage the discussion of ideas after identifying and discovering problems, and then creating positive solutions for "we the people," in order to provide for the "general welfare" and "domestic tranquility" of America now and its "posterity" into the future. To encourage an emphasis on separation of religion and state for all, no matter if this is for those "of faith" in a Maker / Creator (Deists, God-loving people, Christians, various people of spirituality) and atheists or agnostics.

Comment About Tolerance and Respect in America Today in the World of “Cancer Culture”

This morning on Morning Joe, a discussion centered on the irrational application of political correctness which has become so extreme that, with one mistake, people are losing their jobs. The issue was about a news media person who lost her job, due to some things she wrote on a Tweet a number of years ago when she was 17 years of age. She has changed since then and had apologized for her statements at that time.

The issue is about America no longer being able to forgive. A recent article was mentioned (Wood, Graeme (21 March 2021), “America Has Forgotten How to Forgive,” The Atlantic). Bill Maher’s comments about “cancer culture” (is this a new phrase?). Clips of Donald Trump on Face the Nation remarking about political correctness were provided.

At this point, I must comment about Donald Trump’s statements about political correctness. What a shame that Donald Trump is so mentally ill that the only conclusion I make is that “I agree, Mr. Trump, but you are a hypocrite when speaking about this topic. I agree, Mr. Trump, but to get your way, you embolden thugs who look for support about this statement and then accuse the rest of us of being on a ‘political witch hunt’ and losing ground by lying about the results of an election.” Trump divides America, rather than solving the problems like this one. We don’t need an asshole like that and this is not being said because of a “political witch hunt” at all, you asshole Trump.

I have read a book written by someone who served in the U.S. Education Department under George W. Bush (and did not act like an asshole DeVos elitist who wanted to privatize education, or Jeb Bush of Florida who wanted to privatize education with vouchers or the same with the asshole hospital privatizer (making a ton of money due to this) from Florida who sits in the U.S. Senate today, Rick the Prick Scott).

Dr. Ravitch’s book made a great deal of sense about the over-reaction and extremist values of political correctness or, apparently, as Bill Maher called it, “cancer culture.” The book was not mentioned in this discourse this morning, but is an important aspect. The book? Diane Ravitch’s, The language police : how pressure groups restrict what children learn. evidently, the person who lost her job recently did not let pressure groups influence her, as she wrote something politically incorrect on Twitter, while a teenager. In contrast to elitist snotty bitch, Betsy DeVos being appointed as Secretary of the Department of Education, Trump COULD have appointed REPUBLICAN Dr. Diane Ravitch and he would have had a person who agreed with him regarding political correctness. Instead, Trump became a mentally ill hypocrite when he appointed people, then became paranoid when people disagreed with him. Yep. Some “political witch hunt” and fraud in the elections. Asshole Trump.

Another book from Dr. Ravitch goes against the bitch, DeVos, Jeb Bush, and Rick the Prick, so probably is the reason why Dr. Ravitch was ignored. Book: Reign of error : the hoax of the privatization movement and the danger to America’s public schools.

Mister Doug, Professor (retired) Doug is pro-Ravitch, including other books the good doctor has authored.

The one issue which was hard to understand. Mister Doug has always liked Joe Scarborough. Today, however, we hear him talking about living in the South and “thinking nothing about the Confederate flag flying.” Scarborough cited the “five flags in Pensacola, FL, which included the American, Florida, British, and Confederate (and I must add the words, BATTLE FLAG to Confederate). That did not settle well with me, at all. Knowing so many people in Florida who found a battle flag from the past as being traitorous, never mind the symbol of white racism, I find the fact that the traitorous aspect was not brought up today. The British flag is the flag of another nation which still exists today and for which has been our ally, especially when they asked for our help during World War II and REPUBLICANS OPPOSED GIVING THE ASSISTANCE TO CHURCHILL and we ALMOST PAID A BAD PRICE FOR THE FREAKING REPUBLICANS DIGGING IN THEIR HEELS THOSE DAYS. Scarborough should have known about this. There is a difference between having the British flag present, along with a BATTLE FLAG. What is being said and not repeated by the media in America is that the battle flag is NOT ONLY a flag symbolizing white supremacy, but also one that demonstrates the treason and sedition of so many Americans who believe the war was not ended in 1865 an the BATTLES continue today. What the hell is Scarborough and others afraid of by saying this? Afraid of violating “political correctness?”

One final thought. Thank you, Rev. Al Sharpton, for your remarks about forgiving a white man who tried to stab him. Added to this could have been the forgiveness of Alabama Governor George Wallace, by John Lewis. In Christianity, one more thing to be added are these ideas: (1) “judge not lest you be judged,” in addition to the words mentioned on this program about “those without sin cast the first stone;” (2) “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free,” rather than just believing, as Trump and so many Americans believe, that the “truth hurts.”

Winston Churchill, his Quotes Taken through the Lens of a Supporter of the Human Race, not the White Supremacy Defined by a Dictatorship like that of Hilter

In an article, “101 Quotes of Winston Churchill to Motivate You to Never Give Up,” we can see how brilliant half -American (his mother born and raised in Upstate New York), Churchill was. Many of the quotes were said in reply to the “blitzkriegs” brought on by Hitler’s Lufthansa. Constant bombings.

In America, the neo-cons in the Republican Party, a bunch of reactionary far right wing folks who controlled that wing of the political party in Congress, tied the hands of Democratic Party president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who wanted to do something to help Churchill and Britain. It was not until Hawaii was bombed did the reactionary far right wing leaders of the Republican Party decide to do something. Together with the white supremacist Dixiecrats of the South, they fought with FDR in a contentious manner. The wimps of America, like Churchill’s predecessor, Chamberlain, remained silent, with fear about “become involved.”

The words of Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin existed at that time, but were ignored. Benjamin Franklin: “Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are affected.”

Stacey Abrams, a small business woman of Georgia, advised that we can hold fast to our values, but can work together to compromise on the actions taken. Whoopi Goldberg is quoted as saying, “we all need to get on the same page,” but what is that “same page?” The lens and perspective with blinders blocks many from getting on that “same page.” What is the answer, or do we just sit and say, “oh, well, oh, well, it will never change in my generation?” Dump BULL MANURE on such pessimistic attitudes.

In light of the domestic terrorism inspired by Trumpicans today, plus the actions of lousy pathetic Republican far-right neo-cons in the days of FDR, we need to be certain we consider what lens people look through these quotes by Churchill, Ben Franklin, and Stacey Abrams. If we look at these quotations with the lens of the human race, not the lens of the white supremacists, Trumpicans, Proud Boy thugs, white Dixiecrats, the ones of the KKK, John Birchers, Neo-Nazis who are behind the domestic terror, all these quotations take on a different meaning.

We also need to consider the entire span of life in which Churchill references, not just pull one word out. For instance, Churchill said,”All the great [MAGA jackasses] things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope.” The first word is, “freedom.” Churchill meant a single word from the list of words. Sure, lousy neo-con governor of Texas, cherry pick the word, “freedom” in order to validate not wearing masks. You idiotic neo-con of the South. So, how does Abbott of Texas define justice? Justice ONLY for white supremacists and the stupid white law enforcement people who don’t like black people, from Missouri to Minnesota, New York City, and elsewhere. It’s a lens with blinders on, directed ONLY at the white supremacists of America. They wish for “honor; duty; mercy; hope” for white supremacists. They have a fear that they will lose out to other races so they create a hell on earth for all, rather than looking through the lenses of perspectives about the entire human race, throwing away the damn blinders. They are disgusting people who emanate from the den of the devil which wants to pit one against another, especially against those who are able to see a God of love who loves all his children on earth.

Even President Kennedy’s words, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” can be viewed through the lens and perspective of the human race or the lens and perspective on one race only. That is a fragmented hell on earth.

This hell on earth needs to stop and switch this reality to something better. Words such as “liberty and justice FOR ALL.” “WE THE PEOPLE,” not just “WE THE WHITE SUPREMACISTS.” “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (Thomas Jefferson was intended for all, but some people just don’t get it, in their irrational egotistical selfish instant gratification ways.

I am inspired by Churchill’s quotes, including this one: “… democracy is a very bad form of government but all the others are so much worse.” Churchill had to reason with a dictatorial bunch of Republicans in the USA who refused to lend him support in his fight against Hitler. Why did these jackass Republicans of that day do such a thing? I have some answers, but won’t go into it at this time. I am inspired by half-American Churchill, but I view them without blinders on, from the perspective and lens of God’s children and the entire human race, which God loves. The light is not a fake one from the devil, but it is the light of God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Those of us who understand what that light is about, need not live in fear because sometimes we are in the darkness of a tunnel and the light is a distant part at the end of the tunnel. We should not be hiding the light under a bushel basket, either. What is your lens and do you shed the blinders?

There You Go Again!

Here it is, 2:15 pm. No Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin. Weekend after weekend. Many times, the Saturday edition does not arrive. The Sunday edition might arrive, but late in the morning. That’s better than nothing at all.

Most people on the demand side of this newspaper market would simply drop the subscription. Maybe Gannett would like it if all of us did this?

Calling, submitting complaint by email, and nothing is done. There they go again.

Who is they?

Owego gets the newspapers. Newark Valley does not. The local retail outlets in Newark Valley say they do not get the newspapers to sell. Why?

Over the hill and the retail outlets in Broome County receive the newspaper. Why in this area of Tioga County is the consumer being screwed? WHY? Is the Newark Valley consumer nothing but chopped liver? One time and ok, it is understood. But how many times?

From about 1966 to about 1970 or so, a young kid delivered the Sun-Bulletin in Newark Valley. Those were the years when there was an evening Gannett newspaper (The Evening Press). The Sun-Bulletin was the morning newspaper published by David Bernstein. When Bernstein sold the newspaper to Gannett, ultimately the two became one. The result was one morning newspaper, the Press & Sun-Bulletin.

Young kids could deliver two separate newspapers, Sun-Bulletin in the morning and Evening Press, obviously evening. Those young kids were too young to use an automobile, so they rode a bike most of the year. In the snow, they walked the route.

Sometimes, demanding customers insisted these kids must get the morning paper to the customer before 5 AM because they had to drive to work at IBM. One customer wanting this early delivery may have been separated by about 1 1/2 to 2 miles from another. Obstacles had to be overcome or else the customers would simply cancel their subscriptions. The young kids remained in touch with the customers, often having to go collect the money for the week on a Saturday morning so they could be available to play in the marching band for a football game (sometimes to play JV football on a Saturday).

So, yes, COVID-19 makes life tougher. The question remains, though. If someone has difficulty delivering the newspaper to Newark Valley on Saturdays, then why is it there are not enough others, in this time of high unemployment, who could do a better job? Do others just sit around hoping a check arrives from the government, so why bother? Really? Those kids sometimes did multiple jobs and got money from multiple sources, so “‘splain it, Lucy!”

Oh, well. There you go, again. No paper. There you go again. People on the demand side of the market demanding something better. How dare we do that?

Do You Take it for Granted?

Headlines read that several Asian-American women are murdered in cold blood in Atlanta. Several years ago, we read about a black congregation in Charleston, South Carolina is attacked and numerous people lose their lives. Systemic racism. Do you take this for granted and think that you are not affected, so what the hell? Are you white and think, “who cares?” Are you white and think you don’t believe this to be a serious matter, so just leave me alone. I don’t want contention.

Recently, a movie came out about the story of the despicable way black singer named Billy Holiday was treated by an FBI with a lunatic gay-bashing latent homosexual who dressed in drag, J. Edgar Hoover, emboldened his agents to attack black folks in false and foul ways. The movie is titled, The United States vs. Billy Holiday. It stars a performance befitting a person deserving an Oscar, Andra Day.

Brilliant performance, in the eyes of retired Professor Cornwell. Cornwell has always enjoyed the singing of Billy Holiday and Andra Day was able to imitate Holiday’s sound in a great way. A sound based on sensitivity as she sings, even if her style is different from what the high brow elitists might enjoy hearing. Professor Cornwell loves the sensitivity of the sounds of Renee Fleming’s voice within the genre she sings, but also finds a very sensitive voice in Billy Holiday, in the genre in which she sings. Professor Cornwell also recalls the sensitivity in the voice of Janis Joplin and in another different way.

Cornwell wonders, though. If the commentary to berate the voice of Billie Holiday due to being in the closet regarding racism and covering over such feelings of racism by casting aspersions on Holiday’s voice? Is it mirroring and loving the actions of Harry Anslinger (actor Garrett Hedlund) who was doing the duty assigned to him to take down Billie Holiday, due to her song, “Strange Fruit,” while hiding the actions behind a veneer of law and order against drugs? In this way, do you take it for granted that there is nothing serious about what Billie Holiday was trying to speak out with regard to the Dixie lynchings?

In that case, then you must think the truth hurts and this is the manner to which you are accustomed and hope to continue the status quo, ignoring the truth. The truth will set all of us free, even if it hurts, even when you do not lose a life, as was the case of those lynched in the South or in the case of the Asian-Americans who were recently viciously shot in Atlanta when they did not deserve such a fate. No one who has faced such things has deserved such a bloody ordeal.

Lawyers, Accountants & Doctors, Oh MY!

Teachers and professors are often not on salaries as high as many other professions. For instance, in comparison to lawyers, accountants, and doctors (not to mention medical specialists). But then, is it not a better thing to have an interest in people, as do clergy, nurses and many other healthcare workers? As some have said, we work with people and don’t do it for the money. What about lawyers, accountants, and doctors, oh my?

In proposing solutions for America by way of this blog, I have often mentioned that lawyers are so over-paid they can afford hordes of stupid commercials advertising their personal injury lawsuits and perhaps workman’s comp work? Florida has a more liberal divorce law than a liberal state like New York. However, if there is a disagreement in settling a divorce in Florida, the clock ticks away for one side, ticking away $25K, $35K or more once done.

Accountants make plenty of money working for tax collection agencies plus doing the taxes for individuals and businesses. Lawyers do as well. Conservatives from years ago promoted a value added tax (VAT), rather than sales taxes and income taxes. There are many reasons for promoting such a tax, but one of the reasons was the promotion of paper-shuffling businesses which add to the overhead of business and reduce profits. Same with sales taxes. Think of what happened before these taxes were in place? There was likely a higher profit margin, right? Or am I wrong?

For small business, rather than big corporate conglomerates, there is a larger dip in the profit margins. Thus, when an across-the-board Federal minimum wage is proposed, a small locally owned diner in one town which competes with four fast-food “big box” restaurants of corporate conglomerates, the fast-food corporate conglomerates have a better way, in a centrally planned economy like that of the former Soviet Union, to pay the higher minimum wages to a slew of people who essentially are like slaves and have few opportunities for advancement to be self-employed and running their own business. That is, unless they end up moving up a ladder in a hierarchy. The smaller “mom and pop” diners have more difficulty paying a larger minimum wage which does not bother the big business, so more small businesses are crushed. Close to slave labour and crushing defeat of opportunities for all. Sounds depressing, right? So why do I say it? It’s not out of my own selfish self-interests. It is out of interest for what is best for America.

Doctors. In days gone by, I recall the “general physicians” we called the “country doctors.” Less specialists. More general physicians with an overall view of the patients. They did not often make more money than most others in the community, did they? Or am I barking up the wrong tree in the memories I retrieve? Then the era when it was difficult to find enough general physicians because all were seeking more money in the world of specialists. Private medicine which Trumpicans claim is so much better, while ignoring the fact that many of us, teachers, nurses, and other healthcare workers, are more concerned about people than about money. We just wish to be paid a fair livable wage, rather than expectation of a high over-paid salary, as lawyers, accountants, and doctors expect.

So, to fill the high-paid jobs for lawyers, accountants, and doctors (oh my!), we encourage EVERYONE to go to college and forget the availability of the trades people and the skills which need to be developed for such. Lawyers and accountants do tax jobs which eat up profits for small business, shuffle a hell of a lot of paper, and get paid quite well to do such red-tape bureaucracy. How do economists measure these jobs in the Gross Domestic Product, or GDP? We ship productive jobs overseas, reduce the vocational skills training for work in the trades which require the use of hands and not necessarily an emphasis on brains. And what happens? We don’t have people to do such work anymore. No more opportunities for people to develop their own private self-employed business, while there are lawyers, accountants and doctors (oh my!) galore.

We have new technologies, you say? How wonderful! Yes, new developments in medical care and pharmaceuticals. Pharmacists, too, making more money, many times, than people helping people (teachers, professors, nurses, etc.). With all this new technology, we are all blessed at having new meds available for us. Yes, sir.

So, in my life, since 2001, I have had three times when I came close to losing my own life, due to this wonderful new technology handed out with little knowledge about how chemicals interact with nutrients and proper diets. When Claritin was first available, then it was wonderful to enable me to clear my sinuses, right? With small doses of that and Allegra, my primary care physician discovered I was allergic to it. It was left to me, the patient, to tell the ENT specialist about this. Never any communication or coordination between PCPs and specialists, in this world created with wonderful technology and specialists making much more money. The ENT specialist, not taking the word of the patient (as Gore with his Patient bill of rights SUPPOSEDLY lost the election in Florida – NOT) when this patient mentioned his allergy to Claritin. The ENT prescribed it anyway. Within several days, the patient ended up in the hospital with severe heart attack symptoms. Fortunately, the patient survived.

In 2012, this same patient (me) had been taking metformin. Then a doctor was enamored with a “new” drug called Jentadueto. Jentadueto, as it was discovered later, doubles the amount of metformin already being taken to more than a safe amount in totality. Such an overdose leads to lactic acidosis, which can be fatal. The symptoms of lactic acidosis are heart problems and gastro problems. This patient ended up with both. Seeing a cardiologist and medication checkup was made, confirming the correct amounts of meds for the heart and blood pressure were being taken. Never a look at the patient’s list of prescriptions. The gastro man did an upper and lower GI. Nothing found, according to money-loving gastro man. This man INVENTED a problem with hemorrhoids, in order to try to push surgery. Yet, the patient expressed the fact that it was not hemorrhoids causing the pain and discomfort in stomach and intestines. Did not matter.

In this case of lactic acidosis, three doctors and a Publix pharmacist had access to my medication list. None of them bothered to check the medication doses to determine if they were correct. Not one of these high-paid individuals did such a thing. Meanwhile, the patient, over time, was suffering more and more, especially with cardio-pulmonary problems, but also with gastro problems. In January 2013, just after New Year’s Day, I was losing my ability to breathe. I was rushed to the hospital, once again. They put me through tests and put a catheter up through my leg into my heart. They were going to do a cardioversion, but then, with some medications, the atrial fibrillation which had begun stopped. They did not have to go further than that. I was released.

Then, in 2017, it was determined that, perhaps, there was a need for an ablation and perhaps a pacemaker. To do the ablation scheduled for late January 2018, there was a need to take me off a medication which I was prescribed and do so within weeks prior to the ablation. Another med was substituted. Within a week or so (January 18) of taking this other med, I went unconscious at home and slammed my skull on the concrete floor at home. I was rushed by helicopter to a trauma center where I remained in a coma for several days, with the expectation that I might not survive. I did survive, though. I came out and had a heart monitor on me.

By March, though, my dad was taken to the hospital in Melbourne, Florida, with heart problems and other problems. He was 92 years of age. My spouse and I spent several weeks by Dad’s sign, with hope he would be able to pull through. On April 1, Dad died.

On June 28, I retired. The next day, once again, I was having problems with breathing and heart palpitations once again. I was rushed, once again, to the hospital. This time, they performed the ablation and a cardioversion. Things were looking quite well for the patient, once released.

I have rarely seen doctors or pharmacists who are interested in the patient who is a HUMAN BEING. They just act like they wish to do their job so as to get paid. The reason? Fear of the other part of the trio of “lawyers, accountants and doctors, oh my.” The lawyers. A wealthy person playing tennis each day, with other wealthy ones which usually included lawyers, accountants and doctors, oh my! The person fell on the court and injured some part of leg, knee or foot. Lying on the floor and grimacing in pain, he noticed how all the doctors escaped to the locker rooms and he was surrounded by lawyers who were giving him their business cards. What I have observed by so many in this group is the same thing, but not while grimacing in pain on a floor.

Only a nurse shared with me the observation that there was an overdose in my metformin. Having health databases and Medline available at the college library where I worked, I confirmed what the nurse told me. I had been in the hospital with the heart problem, due to an overdose of metformin. Not one doctor or pharmacist has confirmed this for me. Not one. Why? Because of a fear of lawyers. Not one doctor has even listed any of this, but have lied in the notes more recently in my medical records that “I am allergic to metformin.” No doctor has EVER mentioned this, but it gets entered into my medical record? What is the reason for the lies? If anything, the ONLY thing I have been told verbally is metformin can only have a “side effect.” Side effect. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Overdose is the word and that never appears in the medical records.

In all my situations, nurses, on the lower end of the pay ladder, have treated me so very well. When I was in a hospital, I was only allowed to receive the meds the hospital would allow and my diets were FULL of nothing but carbs. A very kind nurse allowed me to have the diabetes meds from home and helped me arrange the “troublemaker” meals which would help me reduce my sugar numbers. I was running glucose levels the highest in my life – 300 to 400. The nurse happened to have a husband who was like me in suffering from diabetes. She knew better how to deal with it than most of the others on the staff, especially the doctors.

At the same hospital, I asked for water at one time and a nurse who had reacted with disdain about the fact that I was in a same-sex marriage, refused to give me water and yelled at me for asking. In a hospital, a person in the ER admitting began to preach about “sin” of homosexuals. Since then, I have heard the suffering black people have endured over time, in hospitals, due to the color of their skin. Hateful Americans inspired by Rush Limbaugh, Trump, Giuliani, and others. Despicable hateful people.

Now I mention these things at the same time I hear Phil Keoghan of New Zealand mention the very thing many of us have been saying about the lack of people skilled in the trades and those who are in the trades, being made to feel bad as if they are inferior to academics. Keoghan mentioned his grandfather who was in the trades (blue collar) but did more reading than many who think they are experts in academics. I had a father who was the same way. Every day, he read TWO, not ONE, newspapers.

Meanwhile, privatized Medicare prescription costs force me not to be able to take the best for me and pharmacists, doctors, lawyers, accountants don’t give one damn. In fact, a pharmacist prefers to point the finger of blame, not at the wealthy of America who control the strings of those in Congress, so as to do more for each of their egos than to be concerned about WE THE PEOPLE and our pocketbooks. A reality dictated by wealthy fat cats for wealthy fat cats and no concern for WE THE PEOPLE. Justice will not happen until unaffected people stand up for those who are affected. Perhaps if I say this fact over and over again, it will become the truth and the reality! “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free!”

But do those in America give one damn about any of this, as they display their hatred for one another and their individualistic egotism and narcissism? No. They love to follow the path of hatred and love of money. Whether Trump or lawyers, accountants, and doctors oh my, they just don’t follow the ways laid down by the representative of God on earth – the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He is the model for all of us to follow because He gives us the word of God, which is to love one another. Lawyers, accountants, doctors (and pharmacists) oh my – and no love for one another in sight. Only a love of money. Shameful people. To our Creator and GOD, forgive them, please, for they know not how to love and know not what they do in the process.

Systemic Racism, Hidden Racism Among Many White People?

RE: “‘Strange Fruit’ – still ripe for debate” (USA TODAY byline, Patrick Ryan).

The article in today’s “Go! Binghamton” section of the Press & Sun-Bulletin (March 11, 2021), was an interesting and inspiring account of jazz singer, Billie Holiday and a new movie about Ms. Holiday on Hulu (The United States vs. Billie Holiday). The wonderful achievements of Billie Holiday are important to point out and that was done quite well by Mr. Ryan of The USA Today network.

When Billie Holiday and this song was presented to a room full of young students of all colors at a Black History Month presentation in the college library where I was a professor, most of the students were weeping when they listened and viewed the “strange fruit” which was represented by black people hung from trees during the Jim Crow era. The author of the article gives a good overview of this. It is very informative to realize that the FBI had gone after Billie Holiday for singing such a song. In other words, a 1930s era FBI of law enforcement which likely would have no disapproval of what has recently happened to people like George Floyd. No surprise, but for a historian, there is a recognition that the events of the 1930s in which there was the FBI which went after Ms. Holiday on the tail of a one-term president of Herbert Hoover and the KKK of those years. The actions of the administration that followed Herbert Hoover, to be able to curtail some of that (but not as completely as it should have been, in my humble opinion) is the reasoning behind hatred of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. After all, the New Deal was about a deal for EVERYONE, not just white folks who rubbed each other’s backs, asked for favors to be restricted within the white community and an expectation of handouts. Without these things, such white folks carrying Confederate flags don’t appreciate what they have received from this wonderful nation over the years.

It is important to teach Americans about the venomous racism of Jim Crow so as to end the systemic racism today which is an extension of a war which was one in 1865 and those traitors carrying Confederate battle flags lost. It was the end of a war, not the end of one battle and invoking more battles over time.

For those who read to the end of the article, they will notice, once again, support of anti-racist ideas is “left-wing progressives.” Never are far-right-wing mentioned with their ties to bigotry and contention with equality of the races. How sad that is. They will also notice the use of the word “reality” to describe what exists, as if to say, “too bad, too bad, there is nothing to be done.” The “reality” is one dictated by wealthy white snotty piggish white folks from groups like Duke’s KKK and the John Birch Society. Folks who refuse to INTEGRATE groups like the Daughters of the American Revolution which rejected black singer Marian Anderson from appearing before an event sponsored by the DAR and for which Eleanor Roosevelt expressed her disdain for the DAR because they refused to acknowledge the fact that ancestors of black AND black/white folks follow a positive “tree” in which they are not hung like fruit. In other words, their “tree” includes their ancestors who DID fight to fight for independence from the Crown.

Same thing with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in not allowing black people to become members when they are able to PROVE an ancestry from American Revolution patriots. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that a black man was the first to lose his life when the British first fired on a colonist crowd near Boston. How many of the white people in that crowd which was there to fight the British are members of the SAR or DAR? Then compare whether there are any descendants of the black man or other black people who were fighting for our independence allowed in the SAR or DAR?

Then there are the segregated Masonic orders. And why has the AME not joined with other mixed denominations of religious orders?

Reality is dictated and reality can be changed by helping all of us rid ourselves of the conditions for maintaining a status quo of systemic racism. It is NOT an issue of politics, but an issue with no debate among human beings.

Finally, I have to ask who wrote the headline for this article? Was it the local Press & Sun-Bulletin or USA Today? This headline of “‘Strange Fruit’ still ripe for debate” is inappropriate and meant to sensationalize this article for white supremacist and bigots. Argue as you may about my conclusion. Could the headline been a bit more tempered? Bottom line. This issue is NOT for debate. Learning about what Billie Holiday had to say with this song is not open to debate. I know plenty of conservatives and liberals alike who DO NOT embrace such lousy attitudes about white supremacy. It DOES NOT describe left-wing or right-wing when discussing such matters as “strange fruit.” And if you are one who feels it never impacted you, especially if white, so why care about it, then shame on you for your lack of love and preferred hatred of fellow Americans. Hatred is what it is and there is NO validation for it.

COVID-19 Stimulus & Survey of Americans

Just released is a survey of Americans regarding approval or disapproval of the stimulus package proposed by the Democrats. The survey claims that 75% of Americans, 46% of them Republicans, approve of this plan. What percentage of the Republicans in Congress approved of it? Hmmmm… 0% perhaps, not 46%? OK. I just speculate (a hypothesis). Certainly, it might be accurate to say that less than 46% of Republicans in Congress approved. Why? Perhaps it is a fear and intimidation of retribution, as with the conviction of Trump, for this? Where does the “fear and intimidation” emanate? From Trumpicans and the Dixie white Republicans.

There are a number of us who have been Republicans longer than most, but have thumbed our noses at the current leadership of the party which goes against the people. We witnessed this in Florida with gerrymandering for the benefit of the REPUBLICAN PARTY only and so as to imitate Jim Crow and curtail black people from serving in the Florida legislature. Same political party in Florida, where Donald Trump has taken up residence, have FRAUDULENTLY stolen elections and made it possible by way of methods of voter suppression. As all Trumpicans do, they want a dictatorship so no one questions what they do and they don’t need to be held accountable, as they whip up the passions of a bunch of American traitors who wave Confederate battle flags and disrupt America with chaos by way of thugs and goons. We witnessed this in Florida as Republicans win by such narrow gaps, as a result of the fraud in the Rick Scott elections and the DeSantis election. Add to this the voter suppression, too. A Republican supervisor of elections in Palm Beach County, in 2000, sabotaged the elections of 2000. We, as Republicans observed it happen. The voters fired that Supervisor of Elections when she was up for re-election in 2004. In 2018, Rick the Prick Scott was unhappy with the Democrat at the helm of the Supervisor of Elections, so he simply fired her, never allowing the voters to make the decision. Yet, these Republicans make a claim that they “speak for the people.” BS. Thus, they have led many of us to thumb our noses at the Republicans and tell the Republican leadership to go to hell. Add all these people to the 46% of Republicans who favor the stimulus package and what do you get? You still get 75%, but what is the percentage of Republicans? It might just be much higher than 46%. But of course, according to Trumpicans, we are just a bunch of assholes, right? Silly us.

Cowards Will Say Anything

Amidst the outpouring of disgust against Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick’s statement of “you reap what you so” comment on Twitter, was likely to be found some comments which make reasonable sense.  Patrick is a politician of hatred, caused by stubborn ignorance in believing traditionalist beliefs in the scriptures, rather than attempting to seek wisdom.  He has a finger pointed at the LGBT community, with three pointed back at himself.  Only God makes the final say and anyone else who judges is nothing but a self-righteous coward trying to help him or her to feel better about their own irregularities by trashing others.

I suppose that Patrick believes the African-Americans in that church in Charleston “reaped what they sowed” as a hateful white man gunned them down?  I suppose the little elementary school kids at Sandy Hook “reaped what they sowed” as a hateful man gunned them down?  What about the other attacks of AMERICAN terrorism i this nation?  The victims in each case “reaped what they sowed?”

What makes this tragedy far worse is that the religion from which the killer apparently came believes they are not “cowards” and are actually praised by Allah.  In a civilized world with a belief in a loving God, people like this killer are considered cowards.

What about the LGBT community in all of this?  Unlike the people in Charleston, LGBT are able to HIDE themselves.  The bigots do not attack them due to a different color of skin.  Perhaps Archbishop Akinola of Nigeria needs to understand this and be a real Christian, not bowing to Muslim beliefs out of fear.  And the same can be said of white people living in African nations like Kenya and Nigeria (and other areas).  In all these situations, people cannot change the color of their skin.  However, LGBT people can live in denial of who they are and therefore find safety from hateful people.

In the end, men and women can kill the body, but they cannot kill the soul.  Will God judge cowards – deceptive ones – worse than those who are honest about the way GOD MADE THEM?  None of us know for certain the answer to this question.  But I place my bets that only a loving God would have created the beauty of this earth, including the beauty of human beings, made in God’s image.  And a loving God would not condone awful things against other human beings, as often wrongly portrayed in the “Old Testament” by legends and myths of men who reported life the way it was in those ancient times.  I really do not believe that God condones the killing of babies in the name of God. I really do not believe that God condones the killing of LGBT in the name of God, either.

Evil hateful men and women will stop at nothing to prove their point that they work “in the name of God.”  I said EVIL, did I not?  They follow the ways of Satan the devil, with whom Jesus Christ resisted temptation while confined with the evil person in the dessert.  Pat Robertson makes money from hate and evil and pretends its about Jesus Christ.  Indeed, Robertson is the Anti-Christ.  Of whom does Robertson really hold animosity?  After Hurricane Katrina, he announced. and many stubbornly ignorant folks swallowed what he said, that New Orleans was destroyed due to homosexuality.  Yet, what were the facts about that hurricane?  Katrina had silently crept over South Florida with virtually little or no damage.  Where is there a larger population of LGBT? New Orleans or South Florida and the Keys?  Yet, Robertson convinced a whole bunch of gullible stubbornly ignorant folks that New Orleans was destroyed due to homosexuality.  He never bothered to explain why South Florida was “spared?”

Perhaps it’s a case of – “okay folks, go after the homosexuals first.”  Then when homosexuals are destroyed, “okay folks, go after people with a different skin color.”  Then when they are destroyed, Robertson and other hateful folks (jihadists in both the Christian and Muslim religions), selling hatred which emanates from the Devil, will keep going after innocent folks, until they go after ME who remained complacent in it all.  Who will be there for me?

THE MISTER DOUG REPORT

“We the people…”

Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt expressed the idea that the words of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution are the greatest part of that document.  “We the people, in order to form a more perfect union…”  He recognized, especially through his wife, Eleanor, that subjection of a minority – the African-Americans – by a majority did not accomplish the goal of, “We the people, in order to form a more perfect union…”  But even FDR was afraid of the Bible-belt jerks in the South who interpreted the Bible in a negative way, with regard to African-Americans.  God bless Eleanor, because she truly had no fear of the stubbornly ignorant ones with brains baked by the sun in the South.

Even today, the sun-baked brains of some of Dixie would rather throw away the “we the people…” because they just don’t believe in social equality.

These dimwitted folks have caused pain and suffering to many of us who DO believe in social equality.  How so?  By insisting we should not have Social Security and taking measures to eliminate it.  By insisting we not have Medicare and taking measures to eliminate it.  By insisting we not have state retirement pensions and taking measures to eliminate such plans.  By eliminating corporate pension plans.  In each case, the influence of those who refuse to accept social equality have set up these systems to appear there is a lack of money.  The real reason behind this?  To deny a diverse population to receive these benefits.  These big fat stupid honkies truly believe they alone are the ones who should receive such benefits.  They have even convinced black racists of the same.  The big fat pig honkies have convinced the Uncle Toms of the pleasures of not receiving Social Security, Medicare, or pensions, only because these black folks are the ones with plenty of money to create their own retirement security.  Not all of us have such luck.

And speaking of “luck,” yesterday my sources mentioned the huge amount of money given by a casino owner – and likely a member of the Mafia – to Karl Rove’s PAC.  Karl Rove, a wealthy honky pig from Dixie.  Karl Rove is one of those who have commandeered the party of Lincoln and abolitionists and turned it into a party of cowards, bullies, and pigs.  And the dumb common people follow this party, with wool over their eyes. I resent being forced to live my life according to luck, which is what the casino owners wish would happen.  I had a great-grandmother who said luck is evil.  Until I have seen what “luck” is doing to this nation and “we the people,” by casinos and other forms of disgusting practices, I never would have believed what my wise great-grandmother said.  But then, she had grown up during the Spanish-American War, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Korean Conflict.  I respect her opinion more than I do the opinions of the fat pigs who dominate our lives today.

Yes, the Mafia of “luck” is aligned with Bible-belt jerks who apparently have missed the scriptures which discuss “luck.” Bible-belt bullies cherry-pick the Bible according to their needs of hatred and self-righteousness and judgment.  They check their brains in at the doors of churches.  They bully the rest of us, dishonoring our own faith by marginalizing us and screwing us over when we defend our own faith.

Near my home is a bails bondsman who has a huge sign in front of his business in support of Rick Scott.  Now why would he support Rick Scott?  I wonder why?  Carlie might be called, “Chain-gang Charlie,” but at least he was dealing with those already in jail.  Thieves and bullies like Rick Scott and Pam Bondi prefer to fill the jails and then deny these are “political prisoners.”  This makes for excessive profits on the part of a bails bondsman.  The more in jail, the more there are for his business.  Why would he NOT support Rick Scott?

We all support or vote for a candidate due to our own financial stability.  But the bails bondsmen and many who support Rick Scott are those who wish to achieve  windfall and excessive profits for THEMSELVES and could care less about society. These pigs do nothing for society, only for themselves – and vote likewise.

Such people are not happy with just having their own excessive profits, but somehow convince everyone that government needs to stop collecting revenues in order to balance budgets.

What about the bails bondsman’s family?  Is it the perfect picture, as drawn by James Dobson, the proclaimed “family” expert with the Bible cherry-picking tongs and the egotistical divine rights he gains from excessive amounts of money?

I, too, wish to receive benefits for myself.  But, on the other hand, I weigh the various problems and situations in our lives against what is best for more people?  Taking pensions away benefits only a small number of people – those at the top.  Common folk who don’t have pensions believe, out of pure jealousy, that those with pensions don’t deserve them.  Yet, they fail to step back to see the larger picture, jealous of the ones who REMOVE the pensions in the first place.  How stupid and unintelligent are these common folks.

For generations, my own family has existed on the idea of making a profit, but not necessarily excessive profits and those built on greed.  I grew up with a wonderful family.  I am talking about both my immediate and extended families.  Oh, there was no perfection.  My dad was a single owner of a private business – self-employed, as described by the IRS.  He did not seek excessive profits and he helped his own family along the way.

My dad and mom were once on the same road as a Republican who worked his way to wealth and fortune.  My parents supported him and provided assistance to him, when he had nothing.  However, my parents have received absolutely no appreciation for what they did to help that man along the way.  Yet, like other Republican pigs today, they insist they are “self-made” and had no help from others, especially never acknowledging the help of the government.

Rick Scott likely had similar situation in his past.  He probably passes off the “little people” after they helped him along the way.

People like Scott and the Republican I have described above – pigs – are unappreciative people.  They take and take and expect the little guy to keep giving, with no regard to a family budget.  Just be a “good family man,” as defined by James Dobson.  We family-oriented people are supposed to ignore the fact that monopolistic private enterprise can dictate high prices, worse than taxes.  And when the government is stripped down, the means for communicating with a representative government are ended.  These anti-government, egotistical, money-worshiping, money-loving pigs remove the means for the common people to stop the excessive greed of monopolistic corporations with CEOs making 200% more than the lowest-paid employee (it was 25% gap in the 1970s, before Reagan).  These pigs are destroying pension plans for the average guy.

Profit in the family budget?  Why, only those with a “divine right” and those who own most of the resources in this nation are apparently allowed to make profits (according to Rick Scott and others) – and boy, the profits they make.  Rather than SPREAD OUT the OPPORTUNITIES for the average family to benefit from the PROFITS OF CAPITALISM, the bullying greedy selfish honky pigs deny the equality of capitalism. These pigs then wonder why madmen like Castro and Stalin come to the forefront.  Even those who defend capitalism, but do not wish to have unbridled capitalism are called “communists” solely on the belief that the disagreement with the pigs labels us as “communist.”  FDR is one.  Eleanor Roosevelt was one.  I am one.  And I will quote Adam Smith from the 18th Century – many years before the “communist manifesto” was written, to defend placing some reigns on capitalism.  Adam Smith, the original capitalist, advocated the type of “bridled capitalism” advocated by FDR.  Like FDR, I, too, don’t accept ideology.  I accept solutions which will work.

I did not go into teaching because of a promise of excessive profits.  I did not go into teaching for the money.  The guy who was helped along by my parents to the fortune he has today, told me, as a kid, I was stupid – on two counts:  (1) I should not admire FDR and (2) why would I become a teacher?  I should go where “the money is…” dentistry or medicine or engineering.  I am so stupid not to recognize that the future was going to be controlled by idiots like him – with money and a perceived divine right.  What a dingleberry I was – apparently.

I have worked in both public and private educational organizations.  I have worked in a corporation.  I have worked with and without a union or tenure.  I am here to tell you that a non-union corporate model has more unethical political protections of some employees, while others got no protection.  It was not always based on how well the employees performed, either.

I obtained student loans in New York state for both public and private institutions of higher education.  The loans for the private institution were far worse than for the public institution.  Rather than purposely default and have more money available to me to invest in my future, I faithfully paid back those loans – while raising a family.  I am not griping, but just pointing out that there were those in my generation who DELIBERATELY defaulted, thus causing all of us more expense, while those people might just be the Karl Roves and Rick Scotts of the world who were able to save for their own retirement.

Many greedy, selfish, egotistical, money-loving, money-worshiping Republican bullies have no conscience to understand the human story behind what I am saying.  Money-worship blinds these pigs and they merely marginalize people like me (and Eleanor Roosevelt, in past years) as being griping lunatics.  They refuse to understand the point I make, as they then remove whatever I have been able to work hard to attain – a pension for retirement.  Under these conditions, why would I not endorse the axing of all Bush tax credits for the wealthy? Who is causing class warfare?  We have all been working smart and hard to attain what we set out to do, only to find the wealthy pulling the rug out from beneath us, while these pigs add more and more to their own coffers.

In reality, these wealthy pigs are not the “self-made men,” as they like to portray themselves.  In reality, people like me are the “self-made men AND WOMEN” of the world.  I quietly worked, became a company man when it was required, figured out how to go around hurdles presented to me, solved problems, and fathered a family.  I had many successes, but also overcame failures, too – learning from my failures.  I am not perfect and often do not toot my horn as much as greedy, selfish, egotistical money-loving, money-worshiping people do, as they attack their fellow human beings.

“Piggies” by Lennon / McCartney and the Beatles; White Album

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their sties with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around
In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whacking.

Everywhere there’s lots of piggies
Living piggy lives

“We the people…” are more important than the “big piggies” and don’t enjoy being the slave-like “little piggies.”

THE MISTER DOUG REPORT PART 2

“Liar, liar, pants on fire!”

As kids, we would repeat this little chant when we knew one of our “playmates” was lying.

Rick Scott lies.  Where is the evidence?  Obamacare has NOT caused costs of medical care to go up.  That is a bunch of baloney.  For the insurance I pay, the cost has gone down, not up.  For the insurance costs of some friends who were unable to purchase insurance prior to Obamacare – because it was too costly – the cost is now affordable enough to purchase.

Rick Scott, you lie.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire!”  Go back to elementary school playgrounds where the kids could repeat this chant and millions of people would not get hurt.

Rick Scott is also a bully and a coward.  Rather than challenge Karl Rove or the Koch brothers – people on his level, he bullies people who have less power and money.  Bullying coward Rick Scott.  Take your lying advertisements and go home, Rick Scott – all the way to Kansas.
